FOX 5 got a first look preview of a lap around the Freedom 250 Grand Prix course from the driver’s seat as Steve Chenevey jumped into a pace car and took a spin around the Washington, D.C. track.

What we know:

The 1.7‑mile circuit features seven turns and 147 laps. Designed with fan accessibility, views and safety in mind, the street course includes a sweeping .4‑mile frontstretch along Pennsylvania Avenue, framed by the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol.

The pit lane sits along Pennsylvania Avenue between Turns 1 and 2. The INDYCAR field will also race past the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, the National Gallery of Art and the National Archives on the route through the National Mall and surrounding streets.

The Freedom 250 Grand Prix will be the first auto race ever held on the streets of the nation’s capital.
