Family members of 24-year-old Devon Wallace say the Alexandria father had no known tie to Jefferson County, West Virginia, which made it even harder to believe when deputies found Wallace dead in a field there Thursday.

Wallace leaves behind many family members, including a five-year-old son.

Jefferson County deputies believe he was killed overnight Wednesday into Thursday and described Wallace as being found with trauma to the upper body.

Wallace's loved ones tell FOX 5 he was brutally beaten to death. They described him as a loving father and friend.

"He was a great father. He tried to be there as best as he could and when he was there his son enjoyed every moment with him," said Delese Adon, the mother of Wallace's child.

Wallace's mother Renee Webb says any tip that could lead to her son's killer or killers will help bring the family peace.

"My son will never be able to see his son again and his son will never be able to see his father again so I want [the killers] to suffer and hurt just like I'm hurting, like his son is hurting," Webb said.

The family has started a GoFundMe to help pay for burial expenses: https://www.gofundme.com/f/devons-homegoing

Anyone with information is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office or the homicide unit at the Fairfax County Police Department.
