Early morning fire leaves 6 homeless in northwest DC

Officials say six people are without a place to stay after an early morning fire damaged several homes in northwest D.C.

The fire was reported around 2 a.m. in a 2-story rowhouse in the 3000 block of 11th Street. Firefighters say the blaze began on the porches in the rear of the house and spread to a nearby home on Columbia Avenue.

No injuries were reported. Authorities say six people from two properties were displaced by the flames. Officials credit working smoke detectors in helping alert the residents to the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
