Gun found in box of candy at D.C. school, Virginia teacher charged in separate incident

School communities in D.C. and Northern Virginia are on edge after firearms were discovered on two separate campuses this week. At KIPP DC Shaw Academy in Northwest D.C., a teacher uncovered a 9mm Glock inside a box of Halloween candy moments before it was set to be distributed to young students, prompting an investigation into how the weapon got onto school grounds. Meanwhile, Manassas Park High School art teacher Veronica Gooch-Ray faces a felony charge after allegedly dropping her loaded handgun in the campus parking lot, an incident that prompted citywide school closures on Monday.
