Maryland teen sentenced to 7 years in fatal stolen car crash that killed Prince George's mother

A Maryland teenager has been sentenced to seven years in prison for the fatal Landover crash that killed 35-year-old mother Shaunte Denise Canty. The judge noted that Michael Collins was on probation and fleeing police in a stolen vehicle at high speeds when the August 2025 collision occurred, leaving Canty's nonverbal son in the car and devastating her family. Alongside his prison term and probation, Collins was ordered to complete annual community service on the anniversary of the crash, though Canty’s loved ones called the sentence unfair and argued that justice was not served.
