Mamatoto Village spotlights Black Maternal Health Week
Mamatoto Village is a DC-based organization advancing maternal health for Black women through workforce development and culturally responsive perinatal care. They offer programs like Mothers Rising (perinatal care and case management), workforce development initiatives that train community-based birth workers, and the upcoming Village Care Program that expands access for mothers needing more flexible support. They serve 400 families annually, primarily in Wards 5, 7, and 8, with a 0% maternal mortality rate among clients over 10+ years. They recently received grant funds from CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and the Greater Washington Community Foundation to help expand maternal health programming. In their 13th year in business, they are celebrating with the theme: “Maternal Health is Everyone’s Business,” and are driving awareness and action through events like their recent 5K and soirée.
