Virginia residents raise concerns over data centers and rising energy costs

Concerns over the rapid growth of data centers and rising electric costs took center stage at a town hall in Prince William County. Rep. Suhas Subramaniam hosted the event as residents raised questions about the impact of data centers on local communities, infrastructure and energy bills. Nearly half of all data centers in Virginia are located in Prince William County, according to officials. Residents also voiced opposition to proposed projects, including Dominion Energy’s plan to build a six-mile transmission line to connect data center facilities. Critics worry the expansion could drive up electricity costs and strain local resources as more projects move forward.
