More than 1000 NIH employees terminated in latest round of federal layoffs

The National Institutes of Health, headquartered in Bethesda, has lost more than 1,000 employees in another round of federal worker firings. Similar to other federal layoffs the nation has seen in recent weeks, those workers learned that their jobs had been terminated through an unexpected — and some say unceremonious — email.

As President Donald Trump continues to make unprecedented layoffs across the federal government, unemployment is expected to rise significantly in the DMV. Just four weeks into Trump’s crusade to cut federal employees, one analyst tells FOX 5 that this may just be the first wave of increasing unemployment in the region.  

Florida Immigration Enforcement Board and Council: Who's on it?

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said the state's efforts to support President Donald Trump's administration's enforcement of immigration in the United States was moving "full speed ahead." He introduced Larry Leefe as the executive director of the state's new immigration enforcement board. He also announced new agreements deputizing FDLE, FWC, and Florida Department of Agriculture agents to interrogate undocumented people suspected of being in the country illegally – a new state law signed last week.

The nation could learn of more federal workforce firings as early as Monday, but one group is fighting back with nationwide protests. The 50501 Movement has planned a "No Kings Day" protest across the country on this federal holiday, President's Day.
