Police: Skull removed from casket in Hickory cemetery

Hickory Police are investigating after a skull was removed from a casket in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Officers responded to a report of vandalism at the cemetery at 522 4th ST NW, Hickory.

A city employee found the vandalism Wednesday morning after leaving around 3:30 p.m. the previous day.

Officers on scene found the mausoleum of James William Floyd broken into with the casket removed and open, according to police.

Police say the skull was removed from the scene.

Drum's Funeral Home, who handled the burial in 2008 is storing the casket until repairs are made on the mausoleum.
