Mom, 2-year-old daughter die after hit by lightning in Florida storm, police say

Despite life-saving efforts from first responders Sunday, a mom and daughter died after reportedly being struck by lightning in South Florida. 

The mom and daughter died shortly after being taken to the hospital, police said. 

What we know:

The Margate Police Department responded to a call around 2:30 p.m. reporting two people lying on the sidewalk in the area of 7941 NW 1st Street. Officers and Margate Fire Rescue began CPR efforts before the mom was transported to a hospital in Deerfield Beach and the daughter was taken to a hospital in Fort Lauderdale with a police escort, the department said. 

Despite the medical response, the daughter and mom – identified as 31-year-old Kenya Glasgow – died shortly after arriving at their respective hospitals. 

The department extended its sympathies to the victims' family during this difficult time.
