Burglars ransack Anacostia Playhouse, steal thousands of dollars worth of equipment

The Anacostia Playhouse is devastated after burglars broke into their theater, ransacked their offices and made off with thousands of dollars worth of equipment.

DC police said the break-in happened at the building located at 2020 Shannon Pl., SE. sometime between Christmas Eve and Wednesday.

Authorities said two laptops, a tablet and cash were stolen. The burglars also damaged a metal cabinet and caused thousands of dollars worth of damage while ransacking the building, according to officials. Anacostia Playhouse said the thieves made off with box office cash, blank checks and credit cards, which they said the burglars quickly used to make purchases.

Anacostia Playhouse, a nonprofit organization, opened in 2013 and features mainstage productions, readings, jazz concerts and fundraisers.

A GoFundMe page has been established to help the Anacostia Playhouse replace the equipment. If you'd like to learn how you can help, click here.
