Two killed in small plane crash
The FAA and NTSB are investigating after two people were killed when their small plane went down near the Tampa Executive Airport. FOX 13's Kylie Jones reports.
EAST LAKE-ORIENT PARK, Fla. - Two people are dead after a small plane crashed and caught fire Thursday morning in Hillsborough County, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

What we know:
The crash happened around 8:16 a.m. in a wooded area near U.S. 301 and Maislin Drive, HCFR said.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft involved in the crash was a Lancair Evolution airplane.

2 dead after fiery aircraft crash: HCFR
Two people are dead after a small aircraft crashed and caught fire Thursday morning in Hillsborough County, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Officials said multiple 911 calls came in reporting that an aircraft had gone down. When firefighters arrived, the plane was fully engulfed in flames.
Crews extinguished the fire in less than 10 minutes, HCFR said.
The only two people aboard the plane were killed in the crash. Officials said the damage to the aircraft is extensive.

HCFR said the plane took off from Tampa Executive Airport, which is about half a mile from where the plane crashed.
Firefighters say the plane wasn't deeply embedded in the wooded area, making it easily accessible to emergency crews.
"So, our engines were able to quickly and efficiently put the fire out without having to navigate any obstacles or the plane being deep in the woods," Rob Herrin with HCFR said.

"This is a tragic day for the families of the two individuals that were involved in this plane crash," Hillsborough County Chief Deputy Joseph Maurer said during a news conference Thursday morning.

What's next:
Officials said they are awaiting an investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board and FAA. The FAA says a preliminary incident report will likely be released Friday.

The cause of the crash and the victims' identities have not been released.
According to FlightAware, a Lancair Evolution took off from Tampa Executive Airport at 8:14 a.m. According to records, it was headed to Elizabeth City Regional Airport in North Carolina, but we don't know whether that was the plane involved in the crash.
