MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. - A tense and dangerous rescue effort unfolded at the Embassy Suites on Democracy Boulevard after two men escaped from armed robbers, but ended up on a ledge.
The robbery happened back on Jan. 1, but right now, detectives are still looking to identify three suspects involved in the incident.
What we know:
FOX 5 has obtained surveillance footage from New Year’s.
It shows the suspects walking into the hotel, dressed in hooded sweatshirts.
Detectives say they went up to a party in a room on the 9th floor before pulling out guns, and robbing people.
The two victims escaped, climbing out on a ledge to get away from the armed suspects.
Moments later, Montgomery County firefighters arrived to rescue the two men, who were stranded high above the ground.
They used a ladder to get them to safety, but amid the rescue effort the three suspects got away.
Another arrest:
The police arrested 18-year-old Makhari Melvin at the hotel for a separate incident.
He was charged for allegedly having a loaded gun, posted bond, and has a trial date set for Feb. 20.
Police say he was also at the New Year’s party, but was not involved in the armed robbery.
