Maryland Sen. Van Hollen declines to back Chuck Schumer as majority leader

Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen declined to back Chuck Schumer as majority leader during a one-on-one interview with FOX 5 DC, saying, “We should have a discussion.”  Sen. Van Hollen explained that he doesn't think the decision should be automatic, saying, “I think we should have a plan, and we need to make it clear we’re going to be united by a common plan.” He also outlined his expectation for leadership, stating that they need to “make clear to the caucus that he or she is going to do everything within our power to end the illegal and senseless war in Iran.” Sen. Van Hollen also said he’s “kicking the tires” on a 2028 presidential campaign.
