Fairfax County reconsiders crossing guard cuts after student hit by car

Following a recent accident involving a 16-year-old student near South Lakes High School, Fairfax County officials are reconsidering previous budget cuts that eliminated school crossing guards. While crossing guards are temporarily back at 10 high schools, parents are pushing for a permanent solution. The county previously cut nearly $1.9 million and 13 positions from the police department's crossing guard budget last spring, citing mandatory reductions and safety data.
