Here is the latest on the nor'easter and other storm-related news in the D.C. region:

7:45 a.m.

The Smithsonian's National Zoo will be CLOSED on Tuesday.

6:30 a.m.

The D.C. and Baltimore areas are now under a Winter Weather Advisory whihc lastas until 6 p.m. Tuesday. Winter Storm Warnings are still in place further to the north and west.

5:15 a.m.

DC PUBLIC SCHOOLS are on a 2-HOUR DELAY on Tuesday.

4:30 a.m.

Federal agencies are under a 3 hour delay with the option for unscheduled leave and unscheduled telework Tuesday. READ MORE: http://www.fox5dc.com/news/241440083-story

4 a.m.

FEDERAL GOV DELAYED: Federal agencies in the DC area are OPEN under 3 hours DELAYED ARRIVAL. Employees have OPTION FOR UNSCHEDULED LEAVE / UNSCHEDULED TELEWORK.

3:27 a.m.

Snow mixed with freezing rain has caused slippery driving conditions along Interstate 95 through parts of Maryland, Virginia and near D.C. Use caution when driving. Periods of rain and snow are expected to transition to snow showers later this afternoon.

2:38 a.m.

The District needs volunteers to help shovel the sidewalks and driveways of D.C. residents who are unable to do it themselves. For more information on how to register to be a volunteer:

2:15 a.m.

All Metro stations are expected to open as normal Tuesday at 5 a.m. However, Metrorail will operate on a Saturday schedule with trains running about every 12 minutes on each line.

Metrobus will operate on a snow service plan starting on Tuesday. Only selected routes will operate along major roadways.

MetroAccess service is suspended for the entire day on Tuesday.

1:48 a.m.

If you happen to get a snow day and are in the nation's capital, D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton reminded everyone that sledding is allowed outside the grounds of the U.S. Capitol.

After a disappointing winter, snow removal businesses are hoping for large snowfall around the region.

The snow is bringing many flight cancellations at Reagan National Airport in Washington D.C., FOX 5's Marina Marraco reports.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan has declared a state of emergency in Maryland as the snow storm is arriving in the area Monday night.

"Our state is taking every precaution and coordinating all available resources to respond to this winter storm," said Governor Hogan. "We urge all Marylanders to use common sense and to stay indoors and off the roads. Now is the time to remain alert and regularly check for updated weather forecasts as conditions change."

9:34 p.m.

Another major school district in Maryland announces it will be closing on Tuesday.

"Montgomery County Public Schools are closed March 14, 2017 due to emergency weather conditions. All school and community activities in school buildings are also canceled," Montgomery County Public Schools said on its website.

9:24 p.m.

Fauquier County Public Schools in Virginia will be closed Tuesday due to the inclement weather.

Universities and colleges around the D.C. region have also announced cancellation of classes on Tuesday:

- George Mason University
- Georgetown University
- University of Maryland Baltimore County
- University of Maryland College Park

More school closings around the area on Tuesday. Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia and Frederick County Public Schools and Allegany Public Schools in Maryland have announced they will be closed on Tuesday due to the winter storm.

FOX 5's Lindsay Watts says snow is starting to come down in Leesburg, Va.

6:56 p.m.

President Donald Trump tweeted that he met with D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Metro general manager Paul Wiedefeld in the Oval Office on Monday about how the District is handling preparations for the snow storm.

"This evening, President Donald Trump, WMATA General Manager Paul Wiedefeld, and I discussed how our region serves our residents, public and private employees and visitors on a daily basis," Mayor Bowser said in a statement. "As we prepare for and respond to tonight and tomorrow's weather, we are proud of all local, state and regional agencies and their employees who will work together to keep our residents safe."

6:23 p.m.

Loudoun County Public Schools has announced it will be closed on Tuesday.

Prince William County Public Schools in Virginia has announced schools will be closed on Tuesday.

5:40 p.m.

Earlier Monday afternoon, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan held a news conference about the preparations for the upcoming storm.

"There's a 100 percent chance of snow," said Hogan. "Depending on where you live and how bad it's going to be, in some cases, it's going to be a very significant, very problematic. We will have lots of closures tomorrow, so please stay tuned to all of your news sources on an ongoing basis."

5:25 p.m.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said more than 200 snow plows will be deployed by Monday night and roads have been pretreated. A decision on the status of D.C. Public Schools will be made by 5 a.m. Tuesday.

5:09 p.m.

Metro says it is expecting to operate on a regular weekday schedule Monday evening and will close at its normal time at midnight. All Metrorail stations are also expected to open at 5 a.m. Tuesday.

However, Metrobus service may be delayed or detoured due to weather and road conditions Monday evening. Metrobuses will be on a severe snow service plan to start off on Tuesday.

MetroAccess service has been suspended starting at 4 p.m. Monday and will remain suspended all day on Tuesday.

4 p.m.

If you are a federal government employee hoping for a snow day, you will probably not find until the early morning hours. The Office of Personnel Management tweeted that they will make a call on operating status for federal government offices by 4 a.m. Tuesday.

3:54 p.m.

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe has declared a State of Emergency ahead of the winter storm.

"This action authorizes state agencies to assist local governments as they prepare and respond to the coming winter weather over the next 24 hours," the governor's office said in a news release. "In declaring a state of emergency, the governor authorizes state agencies to identify and position resources for quick response anywhere they are needed in Virginia. This action does not apply to individuals or private businesses."

"Virginians may have enjoyed milder temperatures for the past several weeks, but the forecast is calling for winter weather to return to the Commonwealth this week with what could be a major winter storm for northern portions of the Commonwealth," said Gov. McAuliffe. "With this forecast in mind, all Virginians should take the necessary precautions now to ensure they are prepared for travel disruptions and possible power outages during a cold weather period."
