Some in the D.C. area got their first taste of snow Tuesday evening.

Scattered snow and rain showers passed through the area Tuesday in northern and central Maryland as well as western portions of Virginia. However, accumulation for the area in general was minimal.

The FOX 5 Weather Team says the big issue for our area will be the strong winds rather than snow. Winds gusts as much as 40 to 50 mph will arrive in the region Tuesday evening. A Wind Advisory was in effect for the majority of the D.C. area until midnight.

Wind chills on Wednesday morning could fall into the single digits as air temperatures drop to the teens and 20s. Some patches of ice could make for a slippery morning commute. Wednesday is forecast to be the coldest day of winter so far with a high temperature in the low 30s.
