Water main break closes roads, disrupts service in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - An early morning water main break disrupted water service and traffic in Alexandria Monday.

The break happened around 3 a.m. and closed traffic in both directions along the 3600 block of Duke Street for several hours.

Water crews were able to shut off the main and authorities re-opened a portion of the road around 8 a.m.

Officials say the break occurred in an 8 inch main. Repairs could last through the evening rush.

Many homes in the area may be without water or may be experiencing low pressure. Bus service along Duke Street may be re-routed while repairs are being made.
