Video shows dump truck driver hitting officers' cruisers

Video released by police Thursday shows a dump truck speeding toward two Prince George's County police cruisers, striking the vehicles just as the two officers ran in the other direction for their lives. Police say the attack on the officers, which happened Wednesday, was intentional.

During a news conference, investigators identified the driver of the dump truck as Gene Thomas Brandon. He is charged with attempted murder of the two officers.

No one was hurt in the attack. Police say the officers had parked their cruisers in the Woodmore Towne Center in Glenarden, Md., with the intention of replacing some fluids. That's when the driver of the Allstar Utility Company truck pulled up alongside and shouted something to the officers.

Brandon, who had been working on a job just across the street, then pulled a u-turn, picked up some speed and first rammed the Ford Crown Victoria, crushing in the rear end and leaving the wheels in the trunk of the vehicle. The video shows the dump truck pushing the cruisers a good distance from where they had been sitting.

On the video, the two officers are seen running from the vehicles.

Police say after the impact, Brandon got out of the truck and took a threatening stance with the officers before being handcuffed and placed under arrest.

Prince George's County police tweeted that the officers were back at work Thursday night--"dedicated officers."
