Va. elementary school brings pedal desks into classroom for students

A pedal desk is just what it sounds like -- a desk with pedals underneath it. It is part desk, part bicycle, and it just arrived in classrooms at Oakridge Elementary School in Arlington.

"Everybody was like, 'Oh, my gosh, we got a pedal desk. Yay!'" says fourth grader Jason Arrington.

It is a pilot program, so right now, the school has three desks that are moved from classroom to classroom.

The program was started by parents who support getting exercise and "getting the wiggles out."

The bikes were paid for sponsors, private donors and the Parent Teacher Association.

Teachers say the bikes are quiet and are helping children focus. The kids say it is lots of fun to pedal while you work.
