Official: Dulles International flights return to normal

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A spokesman for Washington's airports says all arriving and departing flights at Dulles International have returned to normal.

Chris Paolino said the Federal Aviation Administration flight tower returned to full capacity around 6:30 a.m. Monday. A number of flights were diverted from the airport in Northern Virginia after a water pipe in the tower burst around 10:30 Sunday evening, triggering an alarm and evacuation. The incident caused some flights to be diverted from Dulles.

Paolino did not comment on the number of flights that had been sent elsewhere.

Single-digit temperatures and frigid winds gripped the Washington area over the weekend. Dulles International is the nation's 23rd busiest airport. It served nearly 10.6 million passengers during 2013, the latest year those statistics were available from the Federal Aviation Administration.
