Maryland student dies after exercising at gym

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Officials in Maryland say a student has died suddenly after exercising at a campus gymnasium.

Media outlets report that university spokesman Clint Coleman says 21-year-old Dmitri Clemons of Silver Spring was working out in Hurt Gymnasium on campus Wednesday when he collapsed. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy will determine the cause of Clemons' death.

His death comes days after the off-campus stabbing death of another university student, sophomore Marcus Edwards.

University Vice President of Student Affairs Kevin Banks said in a letter to the campus community that Clemons, a senior civil engineering major, was vice president of the campus American Society of Civil Engineering and was expected to graduate in December.
