Thousands brave the heat for the stunning July Fourth National Mall fireworks display

WASHINGTON - It was a huge turnout at the National Mall for July Fourth. Thousands braved the heat and crowds to see the stunning fireworks display.

Even with the triple-digit heat index, visitors came from near and far to hear the Capital Fourth performances and gorgeous fireworks light up the sky.

Tourists filled the National Mall lawn with blankets, lugging coolers of cold drinks and snacks to enjoy the spectacle.

The National Park Service officials put together the effort months in advance, devising check points and other security measures to keep everyone safe.
