Teen wanted in murder of Ballou High School student Jaylyn Wheeler

- D.C. police are searching for a teenage suspect wanted in the deadly shooting of a Ballou High School student nearly two weeks ago.

Police say 16-year-old Daquan Gray is wanted on an arrest warrant for first-degree murder while armed in the killing of 15-year-old Jaylyn Wheeler.

The high school student was shot multiple times on May 16 in the 600 block of Alabama Avenue in Southeast D.C. while he was walking home from school. Wheeler was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

“I don't believe nothing you’re all beefing over is worth our lives,” Wheeler’s mother said at a candlelight vigil held for son last week. “On both ends that pull the trigger, it is not worth your life and it is not worth the life that you are taking. Because now you are going to have to face the consequences of whatever happens to you once you take a life, and then your parents got to pick up the pieces and then bury their children. And we lost a great asset to our community. Jaylyn was an awesome person.”

Gray is described as a black male, 5-feet-6-inches tall and weighs 120 pounds. He has dark brown eyes and black hair and is considered armed and dangerous.

D.C. police is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction in this case. Anyone with information is asked to call D.C. police at 202-727-9099.
