Ballou High School student shot to death in Southeast DC; police searching for 3 suspects

WASHINGTON - A 15-year-old Ballou High School student was killed after he was shot multiple times Wednesday afternoon in Southeast D.C.

Police say shortly before 4 p.m., an officer from the police department's School Security Division heard several gunshots in the 600 block of Alabama Avenue nearby Democracy Prep Congress Heights Public Charter School. The officer saw a group of juveniles flee the area of an alley and found the wounded victim on the ground.

D.C. Police Assistant Chief Chanel Dickerson said there was a physical altercation that took place at Ballou earlier in the day that involved the victim.

D.C. police are on the lookout for three suspects. One of the suspects is described as a black male about 5-feet-6 to 5-feet-7 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds and was wearing tan pants and no shirt. A second suspect is described as a black male wearing tan pants and a white polo shirt. There was no description provided for the third suspect.

"It was a large group of students with uniforms, so we don't know what school they attend, but we have that lookout in reference to several individuals - black males with white shirts and tan pants," said Dickerson. "It's all we have right now. Detectives are on the scene. They are collecting evidence. They are reviewing video."

The 3100 block of Randle Place between Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Alabama Avenue was closed in both directions due to the investigation, police say.
