Police continue investigation into Brookfield Plaza shooting in Springfield

The scene Friday night was chaotic as dozens of Fairfax County officers, Fire and Rescue personnel and Virginia State Police responded to a shooting at the Brookfield Plaza Shopping Center in Springfield.

Police say they pulled up to a melee and had to use pepper spray to disperse a frantic crowd of around 300 people.

A 29-year-old man was rushed to the hospital that night following the shooting, and a teenager arrived with a gunshot wound later that morning.

Video posted on social media shows a packed, rowdy room with loud music inside the Niralla Banquet Hall minutes before chaos ensues.

A woman on the scene the next morning told FOX 5 it was a private party held for her 18-year-old son when a fight broke out on the dance floor that spilled out into the parking lot.

Investigators tell FOX 5 several local high school students did attend the party but at this time they don't believe there was any underage drinking.

Meanwhile, what happened has left nearby businesses damaged and their owners in fear as
police still have no suspects.

"We've canvassed the security videos in the area and haven't found anything that will assist us," said FCPD 2nd Lt. Stephen Wallace. "We do know in this day and age a lot of people take pictures and video, so if they have them on their cell phones they can share with us. We would be able to possibly, hopefully, determine a suspect in this case.

Police say anyone with more information should contact FCPD detectives at 571-234-8055.
