Police arrest man for sexual assault at Metro station

Metro Transit Police say a suspect in a sexual offense was pursued into the Wheaton Metro station, then disappeared into a tunnel.
Metro suspended service in the area for three hours Friday night while police searched for the man, but he was not found.
Metro spokesman Mike Tolbert says the offense was committed outside the station about 10 p.m. and the female victim was not injured.
Tolbert says the suspect fled into the station, then into the tunnel. He says power to the third rail was shut off during the search, but the man wasn't found. Service was restored around 1 a.m.

The suspect has now been identified as Joshua Lamont Smith, 23, of NE DC, and is in custody. Smith has been charged with fourth degree sex offense, second degree assault & trespassing.
