Family mourns loss of 64-year-old bicyclist killed in DC hit-and-run

WASHINGTON - The family of a cyclist killed Monday morning in a Northwest D.C. hit-and-run collision is asking the public for help.

D.C. police say they are looking for the driver of a dark-colored sedan that ran a red light in the 1200 block of Constitution Avenue, which hit and killed 64-year-old Thomas Hollowell, of Arlington, Virginia.

"He was a really good biker. He really cared about his bikes," said Carol Regier, Hollowell's wife.

She added that her husband owned three bicycles that he used in different types of weather.

"I can't express how shocking it is that this is how he passed, that this is what happened to him," said Hollowell's daughter, Andrea.

Hollowell's family said he biked to and from work at the National Museum of Natural History every day for 20 years as long as there wasn't ice in the ground. They described Hollowell as a politically-minded feminist who leaves behind three children and one grandchild - 15-month-old Amelia.

"He loved his granddaughter, my daughter, so much," Andrea said. "It hurts to think about their relationship.
