DC honors Pride with rainbow crosswalks

D.C. is commemorating Pride Month with temporary rainbow-colored cross walks in Dupont Circle.

More than 100 volunteers will paint seven rainbow-colored crosswalks and one representing the transgender flag along 17th St NW on Friday and Saturday, amid Capital Pride weekend in DC.

The effort to honor the LGBTQ community is reportedly in response to President Trump's failure to officially recognize Pride Month.

Mayor Muriel Bowser previewed the rainbow crosswalks today, calling on residents to join her at the Capital Pride Parade tomorrow.

She also asked local artists to submit designs for permanent storm drains that will raise awareness about water pollution and promote the area's LGBTQ identity.

The rainbow cross walks add to other efforts to celebrate Pride Month, including McDonald's rainbow fry boxes.
