Driver killed, pregnant pedestrian critically injured after crash between fire truck and car

D.C. Fire and EMS say the driver of a car that crashed with a fire truck has died from his injuries. A pregnant woman who was struck while standing on a sidewalk during the crash was critically injured.

Investigators say the collision happened at 12:15 p.m. Friday as the fire truck was responding to a report of the smell of smoke.

According to investigators, the fire truck drove through a green light at Rhode Island Avenue and 12th Street, NE, when a gold Honda car coming through the intersection was t-boned by the fire truck. A witness said the truck had its lights on when it happened.

Fire officials say the driver of the gold vehicle was trapped inside and had to be extricated. He was taken to the hospital where he passed away. Police have now identified the victim as 31-year-old Deangelo Green, of Northeast, DC.

The pregnant victim was also transported to the hospital in critical condition. A firefighter suffered minor injuries, but is expected to be okay.

There was also another car involved in the crash that suffered minor damage, officials say.

D.C. police are investigating the crash.
