Community remembers Md. parents of 3 killed in car crash at candlelight vigil

CLINTON, Md. - A Maryland community is mourning the loss of two parents killed in a car crash. The accident happened within walking distance of the family's front door Sunday afternoon in Temple Hills.

The couple left behind three young children: a 10-year-old son, a 9-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son.

A candlelight vigil was held for them Friday night and the power of faith was enough to unite grieving family, friends and complete strangers during this tragic time.

"It makes me feel like I have confidence in the community, confidence in God's people, those who come to genuinely help you in this time of need," said Virginia Moore.

Moore's daughter, 31-year-old Shalaya Moore-Tobe, and her husband, 34-year-old Delonte Tobe, died after a car careened into them as they were leaving their Clinton development.

The driver was not charged.

"I have no real questions about what happened," said Moore. "I basically know what happened. I basically know what took my child's life. I won't ask why because that's God's calling, that's God's responsibility to take care of what needs to be taken care of."

Even so, Moore said she can only forgive. And at this vigil, she preached what felt more like a Sunday sermon about surviving tragedy.

"The children are hanging on by three or four strings from God," said Moore. "He holds them up. He gives me the ability to maintain some type strength each and every day."

Sadness was a sentiment that filled this parking lot as people remembered the young lives lost far too soon.
