911 call led DC officers to kidnapped girl; uncle arrested after alleged murder in North Carolina

D.C. Police have rescued an 11-year-old who was allegedly kidnapped after her grandparents were slain by her uncle at a North Carolina home.

An Amber Alert had been issued for the girl, identified by FOX 46 Charlotte as Arieyana Forney, earlier in the day on Sunday after the double murder at her Charlotte home had been discovered.

On Sunday around 8 p.m., D.C. Police received a call from a female who said she was inside of the vehicle suspected in the kidnapping. The female gave police the approximate location of the vehicle. The white Chevy Impala the girl was thought to be was located near the Tidal Basin and police gave chase. The vehicle crashed with another car on Independence Avenue as the driver, identified as 37-year-old Curtis Atkinson, Jr., tried to get away.

Atkinson, who police say is the girl's uncle, is suspected of killing his parents at their Charlotte home. The bodies were discovered after a fire was apparently set at the residence.

Atkinson is currently being held on local charges but will also be charged with the murder of his parents in North Carolina.

FOX 5 was there when Forney was being loaded into an ambulance. Police say she was unharmed. Officers say no serious injuries resulted from the crash.

A witness to the D.C. car crash said police approached the Impala with guns drawn and pried open one of the doors.

A second female was located inside the vehicle and was detained by police. 25-year-old Nikkia Cooper is currently being held by D.C. Police Department on suspected drug charges. Detectives are working to determine her involvement in the incident.
