Season of Wishes: 13-year-old Falls Church boy rescues puppy of his own
FALLS CHURCH, Va. - FOX 5 DC Cares is our station's campaign to highlight the work of charitable organizations and non-profits in our community. We hope by partnering with these groups, we can help them get their message out and reach their goals.
We are teaming up with Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic for their Season of Wishes campaign. Over the next several weeks, we will be sharing the wonderful work Make-A-Wish does in our area and how you can be part of the magic.
At just 13-years-old a Falls Church, Virginia boy was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Jimmy had always been very talkative and friendly, and he refused to let doctor's appointments and treatment plans take away time from the activities he loved.
During Jimmy's time in the hospital for his cancer treatments, he became attached to the therapy dogs that were brought in and saw the effect that these dogs had on both himself and the other children.
Jimmy was excited to adopt a puppy in the hopes of someday training her to become a therapy dog like the dogs he admired at the hospital. He was so set on having a puppy of his own that he even created a PowerPoint presentation to convince his parents!
Well when Jimmy found out he would be receiving a wish from Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic, he immediately wished for a puppy of his own. On Jimmy's wish day he proudly adopted Molly from Wolf Trap Animal Rescue! The two enjoyed a VIP shopping spree from PetCo.
Jimmy's wish gave him the chance to focus on something positive during a difficult time in his life. His parents even shared that the morning of his wish, Jimmy "woke up with a smile on his face!"
