Virginia Task Force 1 activated ahead of Hurricane Irma day after returning from Harvey support

One day after returning home to Virginia following a relief mission to Hurricane Harvey impacted areas in Texas, a Chantilly based task force is being called for help again - this time ahead of Hurricane Irma.

Fourteen members of Virginia Task Force 1 were deployed last week to help support the Federal Emergency Management Agency with rescue operations and the evacuation of residents in Texas affected by the devastating floods. The team was made up of members of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

As that team returned home Tuesday night, several members of the Task Force's Natural Disaster/ Search & Rescue team were called to mobilize on Wednesday morning ahead of Hurricane Irma's anticipated landfall in Florida.

That team will head Alabama. The storm could make landfall over the weekend.
