Utility pole, wires down after crash in Dunn Loring; police take driver into custody
DUNN LORING, Va. - A driver is in custody after he crashed his vehicle into a utility pole, bringing it and wires down near a house in Dunn Loring.
The crash happened just before 1 a.m. along the 2400 block of Gallows Road. FOX 5's Annie Yu says the vehicle was traveling southbound when it lost control and slammed into the utility pole. The impact brought the pole down and caused small fires which firefighters quickly extinguished. The vehicle veered off into several trees. Despite the impact, the driver did not appear to be injured.
Police say the driver was suspected of driving under the influence and was taken into custody, Yu reported.
Several homes along the road lost power. All lanes along Gallows Road, near Idylwood Road and Cedar Street, were closed for several hours. Road crews will open the roadways during rush-hour and will resume work later in the day.
The incident is still under investigation at this time.
