President Trump did not wait for House Speaker Pelosi to introduce him at State of the Union

The 2019 State of the Union was held a week later than originally scheduled and, for the first time under President Donald Trump, it was in front of a divided Congress.

Democrats won the House of Representatives in the 2018 Elections while Republicans retained the Senate. On Tuesday, President Trump delivered his speech but his eagerness may have gotten the better of him.

After delivering the text version of his speech to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) and Vice President Mike Pence, Trump turned around, thanked the crowd, and then set about his speech.

Traditionally, the Speaker of the House introduces the President to Congress, but that didn't happen this year.

Pelosi looked a bit miffed at first but then looked down at papers as the President started his speech.

Trump and Pelosi have clashed since she took the leadership role in the House following the November election and especially so during the government shutdown.

The speech had initially been scheduled for Jan. 29, but Pelosi postponed it amid what turned into a 35-day partial government shutdown over Trump's demand for border wall funding. It was the first known time that a speaker had rescinded an invitation to deliver the State of the Union.
