Pay It Forward: Celebrating our educators during Teacher Appreciation Week

This week schools across the country are taking a moment to recognize and celebrate our teachers.

The FOX 5 Pay It Forward crew and Easterns Automotive Group teamed up to surprise teachers in Southeast DC on Thursday.

To thank the educators at Randle Highlands Elementary School for the work they do in creating the leaders of tomorrow, Easterns Automotive Group provided breakfast, a teacher's journal, and a $50 Amazon gift card to every teacher on staff.

FOX 5's Mike Thomas went to the school to spotlight the tremendous impact the teachers have on their students and their commitment to teaching.

After a teacher pep rally in the school's library, the FOX 5 crew visited Mrs. Wilson's third-grade classroom to do a short presentation on weather and TV news.

Mrs. Wilson contacted FOX 5 about inviting a meteorologist to her classroom during their unit on weather. She said making learning fun is her number one goal every day.

"It's just about the love and giving back," Mrs. Wilson said. "Seeing them when they do something perfectly or they do something good, it makes me feel happy inside. I just want to give back and seeing their smiles every day, that's why I get up and come to Southeast every day. I know some people may talk about Southeast bad, but there are some amazing students who are doing great things! That's why I'm still here in Southeast!"

If you know someone who should be featured on Pay It Forward, you can nominate them here. In your email, be sure to include who they are and why they deserve to be recognized.
