Loudoun County double homicide: Mother, son found shot to death in home

- Police are investigating what appears to be a double homicide involving a mother and a son in the Aldie area of Loudoun County.

The incident was reported Wednesday morning when a co-worker of the female victim, Mala Manwani, said the 65-year-old did not report to work for a second day.

Deputies went to her home in the 25000 block of Tomey Court at about noon and found the doors locked. A family member provided deputies with a key and when they entered the bodies of Mala Manwani and her son, 32-year-old Rishi Manwani, were found.

“Both died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. We suspect that it was related to potential criminal activity that was going on in the residence, that’s why we’re not concerned that this was anything other than a targeted set of murders,” Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman said.

The sheriff declined to state what type of criminal activity was going on inside the home, but family members told FOX 5 that Rishi Manwani was known to do drugs.

Rishi Manwani worked in IT for Amazon and his mother was an accountant for CSRA, which according to its website, is an IT company that does work for the Defense Intelligence Agency and Department of Homeland Security.

"We mourn the stunning loss of Mala. She was known as a kind and dedicated employee," CSRA said in a statement to FOX 5.

This is not the first time the family has faced tragedy as Raj Manwani, a family member of the victims, died from a heroin overdose in 2015 in Fairfax County, the Fairfax County Sheriff's Department confirmed to FOX 5.

Authorities said they did not have a description of suspect or supsects and urged anyone who may have heard gunshots or saw a  suspicious vehicle in the area to call (703) 777-0475.
