Walt Whitman High School honors beloved principal Dr. Alan Goodwin

A high school in Bethesda honored its principal who is set to retire after serving more than four decades with Montgomery County Public Schools.

The Walt Whitman High School baseball teamed honored Dr. Alan Goodwin at its annual Community Night on Monday.

Goodwin has served for 43 years with Montgomery County Public Schools with 19 of those years being served at Walt Whitman High School.

"It was a tough decision and it's a bit of an emotional rollercoaster because this community is so wonderful to work with but there comes a time when you need to move on to other things," Goodwin told FOX 5. "I enjoy the working relationship I have with this community. The parents are wonderfully supportive, the kids are great and I have a wonderful staff so it's been a winning combination."
