Teen killed in I-270 crash identified as Northwest High School student

GERMANTOWN, Md. - A teenager who was killed in a crash on southbound Interstate 270 Wednesday afternoon has been identified as a student of a high school in Montgomery County.

Jimmy D'Andrea, principal of Northwest High School in Germantown, posted a tweet Wednesday night identifying the student as Josh Snyder.

D'Andrea said Snyder was a senior at Northwest High School. "For those of you who knew Josh, we ask that you remember and celebrate his life. He was a very kind, hard-working individual who had a positive impact on all of those around him, and he will be deeply missed," he wrote. D'Andrea said a support team of counselors will be at the school Thursday to provide support to students.

According to police, the 17-year-old Snyder was driving a silver Buick Century was traveling on the left lane on I-270. He ended up veering to the left onto the left shoulder and rear-ended an unattended white Ford Box Truck that was parked on the left shoulder.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, police say.
