6 hospitalized after serious crash in Northeast DC

- Several people have been injured following a serious multi-vehicle crash in Northeast D.C. Wednesday night, officials say.

A D.C. Fire and EMS spokesperson says six vehicles were involved in the crash that happened on 1st Street and New York Avenue at around 8:11 p.m.

A witness tells FOX 5 that an erratic Chevrolet Avalanche rear-ended another vehicle, flipped in the air and landed in the opposite lanes of the roadway.

Six people were transported to the hospital, authorities say. Two of the victims suffered potentially serious injuries.

All lanes on New York Avenue between 1st Street and Florida Avenue have been shut down in both directions, according to D.C. police. Drivers are being advised to use North Capitol Street and Florida Avenue as an alternate route.
