Second arrest made in fatal shooting of DC teen Jamahri Sydnor

WASHINGTON - An 18-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of recent D.C. graduate who was fatally shot after being caught in the crossfire of a shootout in Northeast. This is the second arrest police have made in connection with her death.

On Aug. 10, Jamahri Sydnor was shot while driving in the 1400 block of Saratoga Avenue, according to authorities. She would pass away at the hospital two days later.

On Thursday, police arrested Robert Moses, of Northeast D.C., and have charged him with first-degree murder while armed. He is the second person arrested in this case. Back on Aug. 11, police arrested 21-year-old Philip McDaniel.

FOX 5 has learned just 28 days before the shooting, Moses was arrested for possession of an unregistered firearm, but was released from jail on the condition he not possess another weapon or ammunition. But according to investigators, Moses was able to rearm himself and carry out the shooting on Aug. 10.

The cycle of violence began in early August when a man said he was jumped by several men along Rhode Island Avenue in Northeast D.C. The victim pulled out a gun, ran away and fired three shots.

It was all part of an ongoing feud investigators described as "beefing with another group of young men" and affiliated with the neighborhoods of Langdon and Saratoga.

Just days later, police said three men came back looking for revenge - two gunmen and a wheelman. On the afternoon of Aug. 10, police say the gunmen opened fire on a group of men standing on a corner.

At the same time, Sydnor was driving by in her Nissan Versa and was hit in the head.

"This has to stop," said D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham. "We are going to do everything within our power to hold the folks that are responsible for this type of violence in our city, make sure they are held accountable for it. I would ask you the members of the media to look at the history of the folks that are arrested in these cases to see if they were prior violent offenders in our community and if the treatment of these folks is consistent with the treatment we expect with violent offenders in our community."

We also learned from the arrest warrant for Moses that police are searching for a third person named James Mayfield, who is listed as the second shooter in this case. However, he has not been charged so far. Chief Newsham did not say anything about this on Friday, and at this point, police have not asked for the public's help in finding him.

Sydnor was graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School earlier this year. The 17-year-old was set to attend Florida A&M University this fall before she was tragically killed.

Sydnor was the daughter of a D.C. police officer.
