Record-setting rain causes major flooding problems across DC region

The first full day of spring was a soaker in the D.C. area as rain, steady and heavy at times, came down for most of the day Thursday, causing major flooding problems across the region.

Afternoon temperatures were on the chilly side due to the clouds and rain. Highs only reached the low 50s as heavier bands of steadier precipitation moved into the area from the south just in time for the evening rush.

A Flood Watch was posted for much of the region from 10 a.m. until midnight Thursday, but was eventually canceled as the heaviest rain pushed north and west.

We can expect some showers on Friday, but the winds will be what we need to keep an eye on, says FOX 5's Mike Thomas. Very gusty winds will move in during the second half of the day Friday and continue through the first half of the day Saturday.
