Police: Silver Spring man accused of raping woman on Metro train

A 25-year-old Silver Spring man is facing charges after police say he raped a woman on a Metro train in Montgomery County.

According to Metro Transit Police, the victim reported that she boarded a Red Line train at the Rockville Metro station when the suspect, Orin Gill, sat down next to her and began to talk to her. Police say the suspect then forced the woman to engage in various sexual acts on the train. Afterwards, they both exited the train at Medical Center and boarded another train in the opposite direction where they eventually both got off at the Shady Grove station.

Police say the sexual assault happened on March 31 between 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Gill was stopped by Montgomery County police at the Shady Grove station and arrested by Metro Transit Police on an unrelated charge. The victim was taken to a hospital for a forensic exam, officials say.

Based on evidence, an arrest warrant was issued for Gill on April 3 for second-degree rape. He is also facing charges of second-degree assault, fourth-degree sex offense, indecent exposure and false imprisonment.

Metro Transit Police say the arrest warrant has not been served as of Monday, but Gill remains in custody on the unrelated charge.
