Man armed with gun shot, killed by Prince George's County police in apartment building laundry room

A man was shot and killed by police after he pulled a gun and fired at officers during an incident in the laundry room of a Temple Hills apartment building on Monday, according to officials.

The Prince George's County Police Department said officers were called to the 3300 block of Huntley Square after a man was spotted stealing items from a vehicle.

Authorities said they arrived and found a man who matched the description of the suspect. Before they could speak with the man, police said he ran across the street and inside of an apartment building along Brinkley Road.

Prince George's Police Chief Hank Stawinski told reporters that other officers were called to the scene and searched for the suspect inside of the apartment building. When they found him, Stawinski said the suspect and the officers were involved in a scuffle at which time one officer tried to taser the suspect.

Stawinski said the suspect pulled a handgun and fired at the officers, but an officer grabbed the suspect's hand and the weapon as another officer returned fire, striking the suspect.

The suspect was pronounced dead on the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.
