Police clear suspicious vehicle parked at Dulles International Airport

Police have cleared a suspicious van parked on the roadway at the Departures area of Dulles International Airport, officials say.

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority spokesperson Rob Yingling says police set up a safety perimeter around the vehicle after a K-9 alerted officers about the vehicle. The perimeter temporarily closed off traffic on the roadway and part of the terminal inside the airport.

"Police at Dulles International Airport have cleared the vehicle of hazardous materials and re-opened the roadway and other areas inside the terminal that were part of the safety perimeter," Yingling said in a statement. "The investigation is wrapping up near the vehicle; all operations are returning to normal. Flights continued operating throughout the incident, which began at about 5 p.m."

Footage from SkyFox showed a bomb squad robot approaching and examining the van. A bomb squad member was also seen opening the rear doors of the vehicle.

The text on the side of the van shows the vehicle apparently belonging to Tai Pedro & Associates, P.C., a financial advisory, program management, human resources and accounting services firm based out of Silver Spring, Maryland.
