Over 60 Montgomery County Public Schools found with elevated levels of lead in drinking water

WASHINGTON - A new round of testing in Montgomery County has determined that more than 60 public schools have elevated levels of lead in their drinking water.

Workers tested water outlets at 150 schools.

A majority of those with high levels of lead were in elementary schools. The school system says many of the problem outlets have been fixed and repairs will be made on the remaining ones.

School officials say the testing began last February. The first test results released in March showed more than half of the 21 schools tested had higher levels of lead in the drinking water than what the federal government considers safe.
