Mom seeks answers after son killed in drive-by shooting in Waldorf

WALDORF, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - Investigators with the Charles County Sheriff's Office are at a loss to explain the murder of an 18-year-old man this week in Waldorf. Walter Thomas was walking home with a friend early Tuesday when someone drove up in a car and shot him.

"He was walking home and somebody walked up on him -- drove up on him, and said 'Don't run' and then he was shot," Sheena Foster, Walter's mom, told FOX 5 Thursday. "They just said he was shot, I don't know if he ran or what".

Foster says Walter was her youngest child and if he was beefing with someone or had been in some kind of a dispute, he had said nothing about it.

The 18-year-old had recently graduated from Thomas Stone High School and was beginning to save his money for a career dream he had.

The sheriff's office is saying very little on the record about what happened that morning, but investigators believe whatever happened began in the 2100 block of Fairchild Court.

Two nights before on March 3 at around 7:30 p.m. a 23-year-old man was shot on Amber Leaf Place. Investigators have released no lookout information for cars or shooters in either case but are looking to see if they somehow might be related.

In the meantime, a mother is making plans to bury her son.

"Walter was a good boy. His favorite word was 'I don't like people,' so he was always by hisself or in the house with me," said Foster. "He played his games, babysat nieces and nephews or with his family or at church -- he didn't bother nobody," said Foster.

Walter's aunt told FOX 5 Thursday evening that he graduated from Thomas Stone with honors in 2018.

Now, his family is planning a vigil for Saturday on the bike path where he was killed.
