Police identify man killed in Northeast DC double shooting

Police have released the identity of a man who was killed in a double shooting in Northeast D.C. Tuesday morning.

Investigators say 26-year-old Robert Merritt and an unidentified woman were both shot while they were in a car together.

Officers say the double shooting was reported at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 1600 block of Montana Avenue.

Two young children were reportedly in the car at the time of the shooting but were not injured.

D.C. police say the woman was found conscious and breathing at the scene. They say a portion of Montana Avenue is closed to traffic.

Merritt died after being taken to a local hospital.

The woman was also taken to a hospital. Police believe she is in critical but stable condition.

Police say there is no lookout for a suspect or suspects at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
