Man charged in fatal Woodbridge shooting, police say

A 23-year-old man is behind bars after an argument led to a fatal shooting in Woodbridge early Sunday.

Prince William County Police say Markus Sean-Thurman Dean, of Alexandria, and Daniel James Gilliam, 25, of Woodbridge, were in a parking lot near Rippon Blvd. and Jefferson Davis Hwy. at around 12:39 a.m. where they were "engaged in an argument that escalated."

Police say during the argument, a firearm was brandished and Gilliam was shot in the upper body. Dean fled the scene on foot following the shooting.

Uninvolved residents aided Gilliam before officers arrived at the scene and began CPR.

Police say officers were able to get information on Dean's description from witnesses at the scene, which eventually led to them finding him in the area. He was detained without incident.

Gilliam was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries later that morning, police say.

Dean was eventually arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding in connection with the shooting. He is currently being held without bond.
